UHR Double Eagle Grading?

Those of you getting your UHR Double Eagle relatively soon, do you plan on getting the "early release" or "first strike" designation?

I vote no simply because in my own viewpoint, the mint packaging presentation of this coin is much more attractive than the little coin holders the grading companies use. No independent grading company is needed to verify authenticity with this coin because it comes directly from the US Mint with its own documents.

 Yes, hopefully to get it soon, so can get that FS. Plenty of reasons, for and against........Am in the "for" crowd :applause_

Re: UHR Double Eagle Grading?

The only "for" is for the opportunity dupe the unwashed masses...

Please do not try to fool any GIMers here.

all of these coins are practically the same.

Some perfect strikes may deserve a "70" designation

The "first strike" and "early release" mean absolutely nothing.

It's a lie. It is bull sh it.

It is meant to dupe the TV shopping crowd out of their money.
Please justify your statements for using this marketing crapola.

Pardon my ignorance for I am new to numismatics. But, would it be worth it to send the coin in to see if it qualifies for the "70" designation? A lot of people here feel it isn't worth getting the "first strike" or "early release" designation, but how about the "70" designation?

Personal preference but me personally I would want to leave it in its orignal packagaed, untouched by someone elses grubby hands. Worth a try I guess

The MS70 is more important, there may be fewer than you might expect with this 24k coin. The "First Strike" designation may also be extremely low and will appeal to the group of collectors of those.
If I wasn't able to get a First Strike MS70 or an MS70, I'd crack it out of the slab and put it back in the original packaging.

Amen, Bro. You are "too smart!" This ai a "special" bullion coin - and quite frankly bullion coins JUST bring ABOUT :thumb.aspx::111:spot when the going gets TOUGH. Read "when you need to trade it in for MONEY!"

Both designations are meaningless and fraudulent.

Yes, a PF-70/MS-70 is almost always worth it. But there is no guarantee whatsoever you'll get it, even if the coin is perfect.

Money talks and if youre a coin dealer who spends thosuands of dollars wouldnt you want him to be satisfied by sending him some high grades....Ive seen it with AFA (toy grading) and it seems that the more money you shell out the better the grade.

Grading is nice and all but there is a level of crookedness in the grading business (i.e. First Strikes and Early Releases)

Re: UHR Double Eagle Grading?

The beautiful wood and velvet mint box with original paperwork is much more valuable to me than an ugly plastic case that says the coin is in perfect condition (which we already knew to begin with).

Don't need to "justify" anything.....I like the little flag and I choose to pony up the doe for.....Many think it is nonsense and that is fine. Many enjoy these and that is fine.Collect/buy or not,as you like. Numismatics' "tent" is big:applause_

I will not get into the slab or not to slab debate as it is a personal preference and to each their own.

For now, I would not slab but if I were to sell... I'd do my DD and if the profit margin was worth it, I'd slab.

Re: UHR Double Eagle Grading?

I think the point about an individuals chance of getting a 70 vs a dealer sending them in is pretty valid.

The grading diff between 69-70 is pretty subjective.

A person doing a single transaction is bucking the system I bet.

So much for the FIFO policy....they should call it Last in, First Out or First in, Last Out

I bought one from Ebay in sealed box eligible for FS designation and another one through the mint to keep in original packaging. It jsut sucks that I cant display it so every once in a while I take it out and look at it like a little kid in a toy store.

Also does PCSG send you any sort of email informing of the grade of the coin or do I have to call them up for that sort of info

HistoryStudent 04-16-2009 10:49 AM

Re: UHR Double Eagle Grading?

They are not doing much shipping of the UHR as the sales dropped off. This gives them time to catch up with the books. (that were mis-printed to begin with).

Thanks....Oh and I will post some pics of it now that I got me a very nice camera. I actually paid $1785 on Ebay for the sealed box simply because it was FS eligible and there was no way my 2nd coin from the mint was going to be FS so now I have a perfect coin and another one in its original package for me to look at. I wouldve been dissatisfied though if the coin turned out a MS9 after paying $500 dollars more for a sealed box.

This is the first coin I submit for grading so Im pretty excited :565::10_1_20::9536:bancha:getdown::cooler::5_1_12 0:
